Working with ServiceNow, one thing that one always uses is a concept called as dot walking. Be it showing fields in a form or a list layout or working with email notifications or the server side scripting, dot walking makes it easy.
Dot walking allows one to access information in the related records stored as reference fields. This is a very convenient way to access related information as the alternate would be to have multiple glide record queries on different tables.
Care must be taken not to over-use the functionality though. Idea behind any efficient script would be to keep the server calls to a minimum.
